In polypropylene, calcium carbonate acts not only as a filler, but also as a nucleating agent and modifies the crystalline microstructure of the polymer. This leads to an increase in the crystallization rate, improved impact strength and an increase in the heat deformation temperature (HDT). In automotive applications, these masterbatches allow the production of larger and more complex parts by reducing swelling and improving surface finish. In building materials, the presence of calcium carbonate also increases UV resistance and reduces thermal expansion.<br \/>As a result, calcium carbonate masterbatches are not just a simple additive, but a strategic material in the polymer industry, which, by combining technical and economic advantages, has the potential to become a pivot for innovation and sustainable development. Despite the commonality in the technological foundations, there are key differences in the application of these masterbatches in the two polymer bases. In polyethylene, the main challenge is to achieve uniform dispersion without loss of impact properties, while in polypropylene, maintaining a balance between stiffness and toughness is more important. From a market perspective, PE-based masterbatches are mainly focused on the packaging and agricultural industries, while PP-based masterbatches seek their target market in the engineering and higher value-added industries.
